Bulgaria recorded a slight increase in unemployment in June, but remained among the EU countries with the lowest unemployment rates, according to the latest data from Eurostat.
The unemployment rate in Bulgaria reached 3% in June, compared with 2.9% in May. Despite the small monthly increase, the country, together with Cyprus, continued to rank first in the European Union for the lowest share of unemployed people.
Eurostat estimates that around 92,000 people were unemployed in Bulgaria in June, up from approximately 88,000 a month earlier. However, the annual comparison shows an improvement, as unemployment stood at 3.6% in June 2025.
Across the European Union, the average unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6%, while in the eurozone it stood at 6.3%. The EU had around 13.3 million unemployed people in June, an increase of 79,000 compared with May.
After Bulgaria and Cyprus, which both recorded a 3% unemployment rate, the lowest levels were reported in Poland, the Czech Republic and Malta. The highest unemployment rate in the bloc was registered in Spain at 10.1%, followed by Sweden, France, Greece and Luxembourg.
