With the India Meteorological Department issuing an alert predicting heavy rain across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioners of the two districts have declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday.In a statement on Monday, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan said anganwadis, government, aided, and unaided primary and high schools (up to Class 10), including residential schools, will remain closed on Tuesday in Mangaluru, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Mulky, and Ullal taluks.In Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia, and Kadaba taluks, anganwadis, all schools, Pre-University (PU) colleges (up to Class 12), ITIs, and diploma colleges will remain closed. If any institution is found running in violation of the order, necessary penal proceedings will be initiated against it, Mr. Darshan said.In a separate statement, Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa said all anganwadis and schools in the district will remain closed on August 4. However, there will be no holiday for PU, ITI, diploma, engineering, and postgraduate colleges, Ms. Swaroopa added. Published - August 03, 2026 10:29 pm IST
