President Donald Trump is expected to attend a miners’ roundtable at the US State Department on Friday, bringing together mining executives for what appears to be a closed-door discussion on domestic mining priorities. The event sits at the intersection of two overlapping administration obsessions: securing critical mineral supply chains and positioning the US as a global leader in digital asset mining.
A broader minerals strategy takes shape
Earlier this year, in February, the administration hosted a Critical Minerals Ministerial that brought together representatives from over 50 countries. That gathering produced multiple bilateral agreements and floated the idea of a preferential trading zone designed specifically to undercut China’s stranglehold on critical mineral markets.
The Friday roundtable appears to be the domestic complement to that international strategy. While the February ministerial was about building alliances abroad, this meeting is about getting American mining executives aligned with the administration’s vision at home.
