White Sox: AAt the start of the season, if you had told me the Mets and White Sox made a trade-deadline deal, with one club shipping off the spare parts of their broken season and the other gearing up for a playoff run, I definitely would not have expected this.It’s the White Sox adding, and they get a good reliever in Huascar Brazobán, who, while 36 years old, does have several years of team control remaining. When Chicago traded for Luis Castillo on Saturday, they had to give up one of their more reliable relievers in Seranthony Domínguez. Getting back a slightly better, and far cheaper Brazobán makes a ton of sense.
The prize in the deal is Double-A starter Gabe Davis, who slots in among the Mets’ top 20 prospects. Davis, who can hit triple digits, has struggled significantly at the Double-A level this season, posting an 8.31 ERA over 10 starts.Ultimately, the Mets are being prudent while raising the white flag on a $363 million payroll.
