Hunter Martin / Getty ImagesAug. 3, 2026 Updated 1:40 am EDTThe Chicago White Sox on Monday agreed to acquire right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán in a trade with the New York Mets for Double-A righty Gabe Davis and Triple-A righty Zach Franklin, league sources told The Athletic.Brazobán, 36, is a versatile reliever who could pitch multiple innings, work as an opener and help in high-leverage situations. He became much more platoon neutral in 2026, limiting left-handed batters (along with right-handed batters) to a sub-.600 OPS. He has a 2.56 ERA over 52 2/3 innings over 46 appearances for the Mets, whose disappointing season has prompted a sell-off.Brazobán, whom the Mets acquired in a trade with the Miami Marlins in 2024, experienced a mini breakout in 2025, solidifying a role as a trusted member of the bullpen. From there, things got better. He looked sharp in the World Baseball Classic and carried that into a big spring. Despite carrying a minor-league option, his spot for Opening Day became a certainty. In 2026, he evolved into one of the more reliable right-handers in the Mets’ bullpen, effective in back-to-back appearances and dependable for more than one inning. The addition of Brazobán comes after the White Sox acquired Luis Castillo from the Mariners.For Chicago, Brazobán is more than a rental. In just his first year of arbitration, Brazobán is owed about $310,000 for the remainder of the season. He’s under team control through 2029.This story will be updated.
