A shack fire has claimed the lives of a mother, father and two year old son in Khayelitsha.
A tragic shack fire in the Gushindoda informal settlement of Kuyasa, Khayelitsha, has resulted in the deaths of a mother, father, and their two-year-old son.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, with emergency services discovering the bodies of the 34-year-old father, 29-year-old mother, and their son among the debris after extinguishing the flames.
Residents said they were woken by the commotion of the fire after midnight on Monday morning, but the circumstances surrounding what caused the blaze are unknown.
They were told by a couple who had spent the night that they had escaped the blaze after trying to rescue the family.
