Archival footage shows Pavlov pedalling along winding mountain roads and dusty, deserted highways. Footage filmed on Friday shows residents welcoming him at Sevastopol's Grafskaya Pier.

The idea came to Pavlov after he finished a season of performances in Thailand. Instead of buying a plane ticket, he spent his remaining money on a used bicycle, a backpack and a raincoat, then set off just three days later.

His route took him through Laos, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Russia. At times, the journey turned dangerous. Pavlov said he became lost in Asian jungles, encountered armed tiger hunters and repeatedly lost consciousness from dehydration.

His ageing bicycle also broke down again and again. Sharp rocks punctured the tyres, leaving him to make repairs with the only tool he carried, a wrench.
