One person died after being gored by a bull during a manjuvirattu near Tiruppattur here on Monday. More than 25 people were injured in the incident. In connection with a temple festival in Ilaiyathankudi near Thiruppuvanam in Sivaganga district, a manjuvirattu event was held. Following this, after completing worship at the temple the villagers went in a procession to the manjuvirattu ground. They paid respect by presenting dhotis and towels to more than 100 bulls in the enclosure. Subsequently, bulls from regions, including Tiruppattur, Kolunjipatti, Nedumaram, Keezhasevalpatti, Singampunari, and Karaikudi were released from the enclosure. More than 500 bulls were released into irrigation tanks and fields. During the sport, Balasubramanian, 55, from Velampatti near Natham in Dindigul district died after being gored by the bulls. Additionally, more than 25 people were injured. Based on a complaint lodged by Dharmaraj, the Village Administrative Officer of South Ilaiyathankudi, stating that the manjuvirattu was conducted without permission, the Keezhasevalpatti police registered a case against the organisers.
