Students and residents of Thiruchiluvaipuram in Ramanathapuram seeking bus service submitted a petition to the Collector on Monday.

Villagers, along with school students, submitted a petition to the District Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran here on Monday requesting government bus facilities. More than 200 students from seven villages—Thiruchiluvaipuram, Udaikulam, Pudupatti, Perumalkudumbampatty, Asoor, Chinnamanakulam, and Periyamanakulam near Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district—are studying in schools located 10 km away in Kamuthi and Paralachi. They commute to colleges in Kamuthi and Aruppukottai. These villagers are compelled to visit Kamuthi, Paralachi, and Aruppukottai for their essential needs. In this situation, the residents of Thiruichiluvaipuram, requested that a government bus service be provided to their villages. The petitioners stated: “There has been no bus facility to our village for the past 50 years. Therefore, each student pays a fee of ₹1,000 per month to travel to school in Kamuthi by auto-rickshaw, which is 10 km away.” They added that most of the people here were wage labourers. “Many are in a position where they cannot afford the auto fare. Parents who own two-wheelers must travel in the morning and evening to send their children to school and bring them back. Living below the poverty line, we are forced to incur additional expenses for our children’s transportation,” they noted. While assuring the villagers that bus services would be arranged within a few days, the Collector questioned why they had brought school students to the grievance meeting, causing them to miss their classes.
