The residents of Karuvelampatti, a tribal village, coming under Vadakavunji panchayat in Kodaikanal in Dindigul district on Monday petitioned the Dindigul Collector urging the authorities to fulfil the long pending demand to extend bus service to the village.They said the mini bus service should be extended to Karuvelampatti and its nearby villages. A large number of tribal people were residing in Karuvelampatti and its nearby villages. The people were forced to hire the private vehicles for their travel and work, they said.Due to the lack of proper mini bus or bus services, the residents faced much hardship, they said, adding that they were unable to travel to other places and even for work-related or in the cases of emergencies they were forced to hire the private vehicles which added to the financial burden, they said.Although the elected representatives had previously assured them that the mini-bus services would be provided to the area, no action has been taken in this regard so far, they complained.They urged the authorities to take into account the welfare of the people of the region and take necessary steps to extend the mini-bus service to Karuvelampatti and its nearby areas.The residents of Karuvelampatti, representatives of the Gram Sabha, Forest Rights Committee, Women Self-Help Groups and others submitted the petition to the Dindigul Collector.
