Samsung announced its new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 recently, but South African consumers might feel a slight punch to the gut: pricing for the Fold lineup starts at R40,999.
The entry-level 256GB Galaxy Z Fold8 will retail for R40,999, while the 512GB version steps up to R45,999. Higher-tier configurations climb even further: the 512GB Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra costs R50,999, while the top-spec 1TB Fold8 Ultra reaches a towering R60,999.
For comparison, Apple’s flagship iPhone 17 Pro starts at R27,999, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max beginning at R30,699. Of course, because Samsung’s devices feature foldable display technology, a premium price over traditional smartphones is expected.
The main differences between the two Fold models come down to dimensions and weight. The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs in at a lighter 201g, making it noticeably more compact than the 8-inch main display on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which weighs 215g and measures just 4.1 mm thick when unfolded.
