The “Ultra” moniker is alive and well, but it now applies to the Galaxy Z Fold series. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is officially live, taking the spot as the premium option in a newly expanded lineup of foldable phones.
Samsung announced three new phones – the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has changed the least on the surface, sticking to its tall but somewhat narrow form factor in favor of a taller inner display. It’s a package that’s become popular for the company, so Samsung is offering it with upgraded performance.
In its announcement, Samsung called the phone its “most advanced foldable design.” The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the slimmest foldable Samsung has developed, taking up just 4.1mm of vertical space when unfolded. It’s a thickness decrease of just 0.1mm, but Samsung is attributing it to a new ‘Flex Titanium’ display backing.
The support structure is supposed to offer better reliability, opting to use titanium instead of plastic components for the majority of the display’s foundation. Opting for the new display build also means the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s crease visibility is miles better than it has been in previous years. That alone marks a massive improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
