A major new exhibition amateur golf tournament is heading to South African shores this December. The inaugural Icons Cup South Africa will take place at the exclusive Links at Fancourt in George, bringing together legends across various sporting codes to battle it out on the fairways.

Featuring a high-stakes, team-versus-team match-play format, the event pits Team South Africa against Team World in the event which will be held from December 11 to 13. Once all the players are confirmed, a total of 28 players will be in action at the tournament.

Team South Africa will be captained by four-time Major champion Ernie Els. Early additions to the host nation's squad include Proteas cricket legend AB de Villiers and Springbok Rugby World Cup winner Fourie du Preez.

"Leading Team South Africa on home soil at a magnificent venue like Fancourt is a massive honour," said Els. "We know Team World is bringing serious firepower, but we are assembling a squad of true South African winners. AB de Villiers and Fourie du Preez are perfect first additions—they are fierce competitors who know exactly what it means to defend home turf. We’re ready to show the world how we play the game.”
