South African Open champion Casey Jarvis will be one of eight local golfers teeing off in The Open on Thursday at Royal Birkdale in England.
Hennie du Plessis will lead the charge for South Africa alongside seven of his compatriots at the 154th Open Championship, which gets under way on Thursday.
Fresh from his first major appearance at the US Open last month, Du Plessis (29) will be the first South African in the field at Royal Birkdale, Southport, teeing off on Thursday morning (9.14am) alongside Spaniard Jose Luis Ballester Barrio and Englishman Dan Bradbury as he bids for the Claret Jug.
SA Open champion Casey Jarvis (1.58pm), Jayden Schaper (3.09pm), Michael Hollick (2.20pm), Shaun Norris (1.36pm), MJ Daffue (12.04pm), amateur Jack Buchanan and young phenom Aldrich Potgieter, who replaced Louis Oosthuizen, are the other South African hopefuls in a strong field that includes defending champion Scottie Scheffler and Masters winner Rory McIlroy.
The big-hitting Potgieter, who secured the final qualifying spot for the tournament, and amateur Buchanan will keep each other company as they tee off alongside Sweden’s Jesper Svensson at 2.53pm.
