President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the appointment of South Africa's first statutory National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (NCGBVF), a body tasked with leading and coordinating the country's response to gender-based violence and femicide.
The appointments, announced on Friday, took effect on August 1 and will remain in place until July 31, 2029.
Established under the National Council on Gender-Based Violence Act of 2024, the council is mandated to provide strategic leadership in efforts to eliminate gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), while overseeing the implementation of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on GBVF across government and other sectors.
