Anbazhagan alias Kaadu Anbazhagan, 25, was arrested by a special team of the Dindigul Taluk police on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.Addressing reporters at Oddanchatram, Superintendent of Police Jeyakumar said the police had identified history-sheeters and habitual offenders in the district and formed special teams to apprehend them.Based on specific intelligence, the police learnt that a gang was planning to indulge in an illegal act. A special team led by Inspector Ulaganathan, which was keeping surveillance on the Dindigul–Batlagundu highway, spotted a seven-member gang.The police rounded up and arrested the key accused, Anbazhagan, while six of his associates escaped.A long sword was seized from the accused. The police said Anbazhagan was facing at least 18 criminal cases in various police stations in the district. He was produced before a Judicial Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.Mr. Jeyakumar said special teams were searching for the six absconding accused.
