The Osun State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has accused candidates of the leading contending political parties in the August 15 Osun governorship election of deliberately boycotting a televised debate ahead of the election because they were afraid of defending their records and policies before the electorate.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party described the absence of Accord Party candidate Governor Ademola Adeleke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebanji and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salam from the governorship debate, organised by Osun media organisations, as a "shameful and cowardly" move that denied residents the opportunity to scrutinise those seeking to govern the state.
