The Tamil Nadu Part-time Teachers’ Federation (TNPTF) has reiterated its demand for confirmation of 11,733 part-time teachers working in government schools across the State before filling vacancies through the Teachers Recruitment Board.The call came ahead of the Budget session of the Legislative Assembly scheduled to commence on August 5, with Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson presenting the State Budget for 2026-27.According to a TNPTF representation this week, part-time teachers have been working for long without any change in their emoluments. These teachers were initially paid ₹10,000 a month. An additional ₹2,500 was sanctioned after widespread protests over the issue.They were appointed in 2016 to teach subjects such as Physical Education, Art, Tailoring, Horticulture, Computer Science, and Life Sciences in government schools to expose students to co-curricular activities.“Approximately 4,000 part-time teachers have retired, passed away, or quit service. A major number of the remaining faculty are over the age of 50, and, therefore, will have a very short active service period ahead. We want the new government headed by Chief Minister C.
