The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) Employees Federation has urged the State government and the power utility to fill vacancies in various categories, including field assistants and gangmen, to ensure uninterrupted power supply across the State.A resolution to this effect was adopted at the State Executive Committee meeting of the federation held in Tiruchi on Sunday under the leadership of its State president J. Lourdu Bastin Raj.Addressing the gathering, its state general secretary A. Sekkizhar said the federation welcomed the steps taken by the power utility following inquiries into alleged irregularities in the green energy sector.Among the major demands, the federation urged the government to fill 20,000 posts of field assistants to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during summer and monsoon seasons. It also sought the appointment of 9,613 gangmen as assistants in accordance with existing agreements, stating that the move would not impose a major financial burden.The federation sought at least 5,000 candidates from among the 9,000 ITI-qualified candidates who had cleared the TNPSC written examination for field assistant posts be appointed instead of the proposed 850 candidates.It appealed to the government to implement the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court order by regularising contract workers who had completed 480 days of service and absorbing other contract workers into regular service.The federation urged the government to proceed with the appointment of 5,000 gangmen whose recruitment process had been kept pending for over five years.
