MANILA, Philippines — Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio on Saturday said that the proposed Pax Silica project in New Clark City in Tarlac is a “voracious” and “unnecessary project” that could entirely consume the country’s energy supply.
According to Tinio, the United States-led project could be used as an excuse to import and establish a modular nuclear power plant to meet the projected power demand of 5-gigawatts (GW).
The International Energy Agency previously noted that the 1,619-hectare data center could consume as much electricity as 100,000 households.
