Qumrha bids farewell at funeral of rising rugby star Luqobo ‘Bibo’ Makwedini.

The funeral service of former South Africa Under-19 rugby player Luqobo “Bibo” Makwedini is underway in his birthplace of Qumrha in the Eastern Cape, with family, friends and members of the rugby community gathering to honour the life of the young player whose promising career was tragically cut short.

Makwedini, who was only 20 years old, died in France last month after suffering heatstroke while training with his club.

His passing sent shockwaves through South African rugby, with tributes pouring in for a player who had been viewed as one of the country’s emerging talents.

The young tighthead prop had made significant strides in his rugby journey, representing South Africa at Under-19 level before pursuing opportunities overseas.
