Okonkwo also said that President Tinubu's administration has failed to inspire confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing insecurity and governance challenges as factors that would make it difficult for the President to seek another term.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has attacked President Bola Tinubu over his defence of the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Okonkwo accused the President of turning himself into INEC’s “spokesperson” and attempting to shield the electoral body from legitimate scrutiny despite lingering concerns over its credibility.
Speaking on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily programme on Friday, Okonkwo argued that the President abandoned his role as a neutral leader by publicly insisting that INEC was impartial, despite unresolved controversies surrounding the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
"It is very sad. Any country that has a president who has morphed into the chief spokesperson of INEC is in trouble," Okonkwo said.
