The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of dragging the nation’s electoral and security institutions into partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Thursday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, alleged that reports of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) engaging a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) linked to a Tinubu ally for election logistics, alongside the appearance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the launch of the pro-Tinubu City Boy Movement, raised “serious questions” about institutional neutrality.
“Political actors are openly infiltrating state institutions, while heads of security units who should statutorily maintain neutrality are shamelessly turning into political cheerleaders of the ruling party and the President,” Abdullahi said.
According to him, INEC’s credibility depends not only on conducting free and fair elections but also on inspiring public confidence, warning that any logistics arrangement involving partisan figures in handling sensitive election materials would undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
