The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has doubled down on the Donald Trump administration's campaign against the International Criminal Court (ICC) declaring that Washington is determined to "bring that court to heel".

He revealed that five more countries had withdrawn from the tribunal since the United States intensified its pressure campaign.

Rubio made the remarks during a joint appearance with President Donald Trump on Friday, where he accused the Hague-based court of overstepping its mandate by claiming jurisdiction over nationals of countries that are not parties to the Rome Statute.

According to Rubio, in a video clip of the address shared on X handle, the ICC has become "an illegitimate international organisation" because it seeks to prosecute individuals from non-member states.
