An explosion occurred while mixing chemicals at a fireworks unit in Muthusamypuram, left a worker critically injured in Virudhunagar district on Friday.

One worker, Subramanian, 55, was critically injured in a fire accident reported at Keerthiga Rishi Fireworks at Muthusamypuram near Alangulam on Friday.The police said that friction while mixing chemicals at around 8.30 a.m. led to a blast in which the worker, Subramanian of Kakkivadanpatti, sustained 80% burns. No other worker was injured in the accident at the fireworks unit licensed by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation.Fire and Rescue Personnel put out the fire.The injured was rushed to Government hospital in Sivakasi. Later, he was referred to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital.Alangulam police are investigating. Published - July 31, 2026 07:16 pm IST
