One worker, R. Gurunathan, 50, was killed and two women workers, were injured in a fire accident reported at Natesh Fireworks unit at Viswanatham near Sivakasi on Friday (March 27, 2026) evening.
Police said friction during handling of chemicals while filling them for making atom bombs led to an explosion at around 4 p.m.. Gurunathan was killed on the spot.
S. Poomari, 35, and M. Banupriya, 35, sustained bleeding injuries after flying debris hit them. They were admitted to Sivakasi Government Hospital.
Three working sheds were razed to the ground in the impact of the explosion. Thick white smoke bellowing from the accident site rose high towards the sky that was visible from several km away.
