Hyderabad-based TakeMe2Space has announced that its PowerBank-50 satellite battery pack is now officially space proven, following its successful debut aboard Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket during Mission Aagaman, launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on July 18.The mission marked a major milestone for India’s private space sector, with Vikram-1 becoming the country’s first privately developed rocket to reach orbit. The achievement places India among only three nations, alongside the United States and China, where a private company has demonstrated orbital launch capability.A PowerBank-50 unit powered Cosmoserve Space’s experimental payload aboard the rocket’s Orbital Adjustment Module (OAM) at an altitude of 450 km. The battery performed as designed throughout launch and in the harsh conditions of space, including vacuum, radiation and extreme temperature fluctuations.“Every satellite mission depends on a reliable power system. Flying on the first private Indian rocket to reach orbit and performing flawlessly at 450 km is the strongest validation a product can earn,” said founder and CEO Ronak Kumar Samantray.The mission validated the battery’s complete architecture, including its high-energy-density lithium-ion cells, battery management system, cell heaters and aluminium flight enclosure. Designed for small satellites, PowerBank-50 delivers more than 50 Wh of energy storage while weighing just 380 grams. Available off the shelf for ₹1,04,900, the company says the indigenous solution offers a cost-effective alternative to imported satellite batteries, helping make space access more affordable for startups, universities and research institutions, according to a press release.
