Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) stock plunged on Friday after the company announced disappointing headline results from its ZEUS Phase 3 cardiovascular outcomes trial.

The data revealed that its experimental drug ziltivekimab failed to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events compared to placebo in high-risk patients.

The trial evaluated once-monthly ziltivekimab 15 mg in patients diagnosed with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and systemic inflammation.

While ziltivekimab demonstrated successful target engagement and pathway inhibition by reducing free IL-6 and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels, this did not lower major cardiovascular risks, yielding a hazard ratio of 0.99.
