No matter what type of hair you have, it takes a beating in the summer. Chlorine, saltwater, sweat, sun exposure, and frequent washing all take their toll, leaving strands feeling stripped, curls frizzed out, and color looking dull. I have fine, colored hair, and even if I don’t make it to a beach or a pool all summer, it always looks and feels like straw by August. Despite being a beauty editor for almost two decades, I’ve never really cracked the code for keeping my hair soft and shiny through Labor Day (I use conditioner, I promise!). So I asked the experts at New York’s Marie Robinson salon what actually works. Here are their top tips for preventing summer damage before it starts and restoring hair that’s already feeling fried.
