Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group leader Petar Vitanov said the first three months of the new parliament marked only the beginning of the governing majority's work, warning that there was no room for complacency despite what he described as significant legislative achievements.
Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum in a declaration, Vitanov thanked Progressive Bulgaria lawmakers for their work during what he called a demanding introduction to parliamentary politics. He acknowledged that many of the party's MPs had entered an unfamiliar environment but said they had compensated for their lack of experience with commitment and determination.
"Three months are just the beginning and there is no room for complacency," Vitanov said. "Most of you found yourselves in a new and demanding field, but you made up for your lack of experience with dedication and motivation."
He said the parliamentary group had been exposed to constant pressure, criticism and political provocations while adapting to its new role. "You quickly realized that the parliament building is not an ordinary workplace, but an arena for political battles," he said.
According to Vitanov, Progressive Bulgaria lawmakers had little time to hesitate after taking office. "We made mistakes, adjusted along the way and got to know each other through our work. But I assure you that we have learned the lessons the opposition never failed to teach us," he added.
