'Rebuild morale and target crime kingpins': Crime experts, organisations and unions lay out demands for new Western Cape SAPS PC

SAPS has appointed Lieutenant-General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as Western Cape Police Commissioner.

Lieutenant-General Sizakhele Dyantyi, a career police officer with more than three decades of experience across the Western and Eastern Cape, will take charge of policing in the Western Cape amid demands that he rebuild police morale, strengthen crime intelligence and confront organised criminal networks.

Dyantyi will officially assume office as the Western Cape Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service on August 1, replacing Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, who retired on June 30 after leading the province since 2021.

The incoming commissioner has served in several operational and senior management positions, including as a station commander, cluster commander, provincial head of crime prevention and district commissioner.

His postings have included Paarl, Mbekweni, Vredendal, Overberg, Mthatha, Queenstown, Tygerberg, Nyanga and the West Coast District.
