Meet the man tasked with tackling Western Cape gangs

SAPS has appointed Lieutenant-General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as Western Cape Police Commissioner.

Lieutenant-General Sizakhele William Dyantyi takes over as the Western Cape’s new police commissioner at a time when the province continues to face major crime challenges, including gang violence, organised crime, extortion and violent crime.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane announced Dyantyi’s appointment in Cape Town on Wednesday, saying the selection process was aimed at identifying a leader with the operational experience and strategic ability to implement the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Reset Agenda.

“It was not about filling a vacancy. It was about identifying a leader capable of reading the current temperature of policing in South Africa and more specifically in the Western Cape,” Dimpane said.

“A leader who possesses the operational competence, strategic foresight and ethical leadership required to drive organisational renewal and successfully implement the SAPS Reset Agenda.”
