Splits in the eurosceptic PiS might benefit Donald Tusk, the pro-EU Polish prime minister
WARSAW – With a sizzling summer BBQ, Mateusz Morawiecki’s new political project steps into the spotlight on Friday, testing whether the former prime minister can turn a conservative split into lasting support.
The first major event organised by Morawiecki’s political circle will take place in Warsaw’s Praga district with plenty of political red meat served up with the spicy chrzan of interpersonal conservative rivalry.
It comes just days after the former prime minister and dozens of allies broke with the conservative nationalist Law and Justice (PiS). A move which led him to step down as president of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) party.
Dubbed “Morawiecki’s barbecue”, as char-grilled Kiełbasa sausages will be a big feature, the conference organised by his Rozwój Plus (Development Plus) movement will be a big moment in Polish conservative politics.
