He claimed his maiden Formula E victory in Jakarta last year, and his recent triumph in Tokyo was the second win of his Formula E career. The Cupra Kiro driver compared his Tokyo victory with his win in Jakarta and revealed that the latest success came through the pure merit and hard work of both himself and his team.Dan Ticktum says Tokyo win felt much better than his Jakarta victoryDan Ticktum told FormulaE.com in an interview that his Tokyo E-Prix victory was achieved on merit alone after a run of disappointing results in several races, despite topping practice sessions. Ticktum said after winning Round 14 in Tokyo, “A lot of emotions behind that win. Proving the usual idiots wrong because I've had a very poor season. The win today was just pure merit from my side, from the strategy side, from the engineer's side, you know, that was just merit. So, that one felt a lot better.”Opening up about the strategy that worked for the team, he said, “It feels good to win in one of my favourite cities. We prepared our strategy very heavily for today and we did a good job over the first 16 laps to save energy while staying inside the top five. When the pit window opened and the cars in front of me stayed out, it was a no-brainer to box and push to the Attack Mode on the out lap. I had clean air which is when Attack Mode makes the biggest difference and by pushing at 350kW in all-wheel drive, we also put less stress and load on the rear tyres.”“When I was behind Jake [Dennis] I was able to save some energy, I saw him have the energy cut and went for the move.
