Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has defended his use of Meta AI smart glasses after criticism from opposition politicians and social media users over potential privacy concerns.
In a social media post, Georgiadis confirmed that the €600 glasses are second-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses capable of recording video, but insisted they comply with data protection rules.
He said the glasses feature a prominent indicator light that illuminates during recording, while the software automatically stops recording if the light is covered, making covert filming impossible.
Georgiadis also denied using the glasses to record during a recent visit to the islands of Limnos and Leros, saying conventional television cameras had documented his movements instead.
“Those who worried about personal data being leaked have no idea what they are talking about,” he said, adding that there was no footage recorded with the glasses during the trip.
