Ireland's electricity system is entering a new era. According to the IEA, data centres are expected to account for 30% of Ireland's electricity demand by 2030.
To cope with this soaring demand, grid operators like EirGrid are introducing tougher regulations in an effort to make data centres active contributors to grid stability rather than simply major consumers of power.
EirGrid's new requirements will oblige large energy users to help maintain network resilience during disturbances.
