Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman has urged farmers in the district to enroll under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif 2026 season to protect themselves against crop losses caused by unforeseen events and ensure income security.According to a press release, the scheme is being implemented in the district through the Universal Sompo General Insurance Company Limited. The notified crops for the season are paddy, groundnut, pearl millet, banana and tapioca.Farmers who have availed themselves of crop loans for the notified crops can enroll through their respective Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS) or nationalised banks. Non-loanee farmers can register through Common Service Centres (CSC), PACCS or nationalised banks by submitting copies of their Aadhaar card, their bank passbook, and the latest Chitta/Adangal extract.The farmers’ share of the insurance premium per acre has been fixed at ₹764 for paddy, ₹624.68 for groundnut, ₹252 for pearl millet, ₹725 for banana and ₹507.06 for tapioca.
