District Collector S. Kandasamy has urged farmers in the district to enrol under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif 2026 season to protect themselves against crop losses caused by unforeseen events and ensure income security.A release from the Collector said the scheme is being implemented in the district through the Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC). The notified crops for the season are maize, red gram, groundnut, ragi, sesame, banana, tapioca, onion, turmeric and potato.Farmers who have availed themselves of crop loans for the notified crops can enrol through their respective Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS) or nationalised banks. Non-loanee farmers can register through Common Service Centres (CSCs), PACCS or nationalised banks by submitting copies of their Aadhaar card, the first page of their bank passbook, and the latest Chitta/Adangal extract.The farmer’s share of the insurance premium per acre has been fixed at ₹740 for maize, ₹374 for red gram, ₹678 for groundnut, ₹350 for ragi, ₹312 for sesame, ₹5,045 for banana, ₹2,005 for tapioca, ₹2,290 for onion, ₹4,750 for turmeric and ₹1,667 for potato.The last date for enrolment is August 31 for onion and potato, September 15 for banana, turmeric and tapioca, and September 16 for maize, red gram, groundnut, ragi and sesame.The Collector appealed to farmers to complete the enrolment process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute inconvenience and avail themselves of insurance coverage against crop losses.
