A newly expanded dialysis wing with 10 additional haemodialysis units was launched at the Nephrology department of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Ariyalur on Thursday.According to an official press release, Ariyalur District Collector N. Mirunalini inaugurated the facility on Thursday. College dean C. Kumaran and senior officials were present.As part of the expansion, the 10 units have been added to the existing eight functioning at the hospital. A total of 90 renal patients have been undergoing dialysis treatment in over 700 cycles a month and the new units are expected to benefit 162 patients, according to the release.The Collector inspected the activities of the malaria prevention and control unit in Ariyalur on Wednesday.Ariyalur is recognised as an endemic district under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme in Tamil Nadu.As part of a two-day inspection, a team from the national agency surveyed the work of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Ariyalur, Government District Head Quarters Hospital, Jayamkondan, and Community Health Centre, Meensuruti, and private hospitals in the district.
