EFF leader Julius Malema addresses a press briefing in Johannesburg.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has unveiled an ambitious local government election programme.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Malema promised free basic services for qualifying households, rapid infrastructure repairs, and an end to the outsourcing of key municipal functions if the party wins municipalities in the 2026 local government elections.
The red berets leader said municipalities had failed millions of South Africans through corruption, poor governance and collapsing service delivery.
"The message for today is that South Africa cannot continue with municipalities that exist on paper but fail in practice," Malema said.
