Councillor candidates for the EFF are under pressure to register 3,500 new voters by July, with the party aiming to ensure only committed individuals represent them in local government elections.
Councillor candidates for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are under pressure to recruit new voters for the upcoming local government elections or risk losing their candidacy for the party. The office of the secretary general has written to the candidates for councillor, asking them to register 3,500 new voters by July.
In a letter seen by The Mercury from the office of the secretary general, it states that “following the successful outcome of the Branch Assembly nomination process, you are hereby formally notified that as a nominated candidate, you are required to register 3,500 first-time voters.” The letter continues, “Credentials will be created and issued to you for your access to the designated part where you will be required to capture the details of all first-time voters who register under your name no later than July 31, 2026." (Consider breaking this into two sentences for clarity.)
“Failure to comply with this requirement by the stipulated deadline will result in your automatic disqualification as a nominated candidate,” the letter said.
