Cabinet says increased labour inspections, specialised immigration courts and strengthened border infrastructure form part of the next phase of government's comprehensive approach to managing migration, as implementation of the strategy announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa gathers pace.
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni briefed the media on Thursday following Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, where ministers received an update on the implementation of government's five-pillar migration strategy.
Ntshavheni said Cabinet had also extended its appreciation to South Africans who participated peacefully in demonstrations against undocumented migration and commended law enforcement agencies for maintaining public order during the protests.
"Cabinet extended its appreciation to South Africans who participated in peaceful protests against unregulated migration and commended the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure for enforcing peaceful protests," she said.
