MAN WHO PRETENDED TO HELP SEARCH FOR MISSING GIRLFRIEND SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR HER MURDER.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the conviction and life sentence handed down to Nelson Mattuse (38) for the murder of his girlfriend, Nomakhephi Thoma (30), as well as various related offences.
The accused had asked his girlfriend to join him to collect money but she never returned home after leaving with him on February 20 2024.
Because the accused provided inconsistent explanations, the deceased's sister became suspicious and reported her missing at the Ikageng Police Station.
The accused, who was the last person seen with the deceased, initially told her family that she was visiting a friend when they inquired about her whereabouts. However, upon further questioning, he changed his story and claimed she had left to see a new boyfriend.
