Following additional investigations, the accused was linked to two separate incidents of housebreaking and theft that occurred between 2019 and 2020.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the life sentence given to Nelson Mattuse, 38, for the murder of his girlfriend, Nomakhephi Thoma, 30, as well as various related offences.

The accused had asked his girlfriend to join him to collect money, but she never returned home after leaving with him on February 20, 2024.

Because the accused provided inconsistent explanations, the deceased's sister became suspicious and reported her missing at the Ikageng Police Station.

The accused, who was the last person seen with the deceased, initially told her family that she was visiting a friend when they inquired about her whereabouts. However, upon further questioning, he changed his story and claimed she had left to see a new boyfriend.
