Toilets vandalised and flooding caused at Matroosbergweg Primary School following break-in.

Criminals were hard at work on Tuesday night at Matroosbergweg Primary School in Belhar, vandalising the toilets and causing flooding.

A picture of the scene shows how basins were smashed on the floor and roof sheets damaged. All the taps were taken.

Spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, Bronagh Hammond, confirmed that the school’s alarm system was activated, which forced the criminals to flee before they could do more damage.

She confirmed that the vandalised area was closed off, allowing learners to utilise alternative facilities as the school day went ahead as normal.
