ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the split between March and March and Ngizwe Mchunu proves his prediction that the anti-illegal immigration movement would eventually implode because of competing political ambitions.
African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has mocked the public fallout between the anti-immigration movement March and March and activist Ngizwe Mchunu, saying it confirms his prediction that the organisation would eventually fracture because of internal political ambitions.
Addressing the media at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Mbalula said he had long anticipated divisions within the movement, arguing that its leaders were driven by competing political interests despite rallying around a common anti-immigration agenda.
"At the end of June, forces operating under an anti-immigration banner set out to shut down parts of our country," Mbalula said.
"I was right when I told you they were going to differ because they have political interests while pursuing an immigration agenda. Where are we today? Are they not at each other's throats?"
