The film industry stakeholders gathered to demonstrate outside the DTIC office in Pretoria.
The Save SA Film and TV Jobs Coalition has said that they have reached a deadlock with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) following months of ‘talk shop’ engagements amid their concerns of a crisis facing the film and TV sector.
Filmmakers, producers, actors, crew members, and other industry stakeholders in the sector united in January to protest outside Parliament. The protest was organised by a coalition of industry bodies calling for urgent reform of the stalled incentive system.
The coalition, supported by 16 organisations, said that since the Film and Television Production Incentive had stopped working effectively, the industry had been in decline.
In a statement, the coalition said that over the past six months, they have participated in only five meetings with the DTIC, despite the severity of the crisis facing the sector.
