Snowfall the Qacha’s Nek Port of Entry in Matatiele.
The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato, has announced the temporary suspension of operations at the Qacha’s Nek Port of Entry (PoE) in Matatiele, due to severe snowfall in the region.
This closure affects travel between South Africa and Lesotho, and travellers and stakeholders are advised accordingly.
Masaipato said: “The heavy snowfall has resulted in unsafe weather conditions, thus necessitating temporary suspension of daily operations – a decision taken in the interest of travellers, our staff and the entire border management community in the value chain.”
He indicated that the precautionary decision to temporarily suspend operations was reached in coordination with their counterparts in Lesotho.
