A 47-year-old history-sheeter lodged at Puzhal Central Prison died while undergoing treatment at the prisoners’ ward of Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Sudhakar of Anna Nagar, and has a criminal record involving 37 cases, including two murder cases, the police said. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against him after he allegedly failed to appear before a court in connection with six pending cases.The police said Sudhakar had been on the run before he was arrested by the Greater Chennai Police’s Anti-Gangster Squad at gunpoint from a hideout in Parivakkam near Poonamallee on July 13, following a tip-off. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody and lodged at Puzhal Central Prison.While in prison, Sudhakar developed health complications and was diagnosed with jaundice. He was shifted to the prisoners’ ward at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his illness on Wednesday morning.
