MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was named on Wednesday as the chairperson of the Senate committee on electoral reforms, while Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was made chairperson of the Senate panel on tourism, despite their detention for plunder charges.

Senate minority leader Alan Peter Cayetano elected the bloc’s committee chairmanships on Wednesday afternoon to “accomodate” the request of Senate majority leader Miguel Zubiri to “get back to work, despite their schedule.”

Previously, it was Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who was elected as the chairperson of the electoral reforms panel, but he told the media that he “gave it up.”
